Pinterest is my new obsession. I divide my time on the web between reading blogs and pinning on my Pinterest site.
Okay…let me explain Pinterest. Take the word pin (as in pinning your favorite ideas on a pinboard) and think about your interests (whether it is cooking, sewing, books, travel, clothes, hair, whatever) and you have the fastest growing social website. On Pinterest, you get to see everybody’s favorite things because they pin these items on their pinboards. Are you kidding me? I get to look at the best of the best instead of googling a topic and getting 2 gazillion hits. I am sorry Martha, but this is way better than your good things because it is everybody’s good things.
Let me tell you about my holiday cooking. I found my new recipes from people on Pinterest. I made Buffalo Chicken Dip, homemade ‘fried’ pickles in the oven, BLT pasta salad, artichoke cheese bread, balsamic vinaigrette coleslaw and my niece made Santa Hat Brownies (just to name a few). The Santa Hat Brownies looked too good to eat but we ate them anyway. As I set out the spread of food on Christmas Eve, I realized this assortment really didn’t go together but what can I say, I am obsessed and nobody complained.
Then there were my Christmas gifts. I found patterns and tutorials to make cozy bed warmers, scarves, recycled sweater candle jar covers, pot holders, gift tags and Subway Art. I have pinned enough crafting ideas to take me into 2013 and beyond. This won’t stop me from pinning more.
And, last but not least, people on Pinterest make me giggle. The pinner who pinned the next picture wrote the following tag “How to sew a lining in a crochet bag – now just have to crochet a bag.” Yes, when will she, if ever, crochet a bag…but if she does, she will now know how to sew a lining in it!
So, if you want to join the insanity, enter the world of Pinterest and you will begin to speak a whole new language, find some wonderful new blogs and pin to0 many ideas to ever complete in your life time…but won’t it be fun to try.
Bring it on!
